Ladies
Ancient Order of Hibernians
Our Lady of Knock Division
Indianapolis, Indiana
The
Ancient Order of Hibernians was organized in America in New York in
1836. The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians was organized in Omaha,
Nebraska in 1894 as the "Daughters of Erin".
The Ladies are formed exclusively of practicing Catholics. To become
a member one must be Irish by birth or descent or adoption, the wife or mother
of a Hibernian or the mother of a junior member.
We are primarily a Catholic Action group. Our work in the beginning with
respect to Ireland was to defend our people against the prejudices and slander
of bigots. Today our work is to keep before our country and the world the
fact that the Irish and their descendants are foremost among the people of the
world in Faith, in patriotism, in a sense of justice, in the spirit of
self-sacrifice and in their love of true liberty and peace.
